Scholarship

Sutcliffe Scholarship

This scholarship was initiated by Don and Carol Sutcliffe as a way to encourage Aldersgate youth to further their education. Applications are accepted for the academic year begining in the fall starting in mid-February, with a deadline of March 31. The winner will be notified by May 1. The award is sent directly to the institution upon enrollment.

Criteria:

  • The applicant must be a member (or child of a member) in good standing at Aldersgate UMC in Wichita, Kansas.
  • The applicant must be a high school graduate, pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university in the state of Kansas, or a seminary student, regardless of location.
  • A completed application and your most recent transcript are required.
  • There may be an interview (at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee).
  • There is no mandatory GPA requirement.
  • A student who plans to work during college is desired.
  • The scholarship amount is 50% of tuition, fees, and books for the school year, up to a maximum of $2200. The award will be paid 50% first semester and 50% second semester on presentation of a billing copy from the school.
  • The Sutcliffe Scholarship will not be awarded to the same individual in consecutive years.
The Scholarship Award winner will be chosen by the Aldersgate Scholarship Committee. Applicants to the Sutcliffe Scholarship will also automatically be considered for the Aldersgate Endowment Scholarship. All decisions are final. Please contact Bill Young in the church office with any questions.

If there are other individuals or families interested in establishing a scholarship at Aldersgate, please contact the church. This is a wonderful way to give to the youth of Aldersgate as they pursue their higher education.
