Fountain of Joy
By Julie White
On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. Zechariah 13:1
One really hot summer day when I was a little girl, my grandmother took me to the park.  I remember a big fountain just over the hill from a playground and a petting zoo. As she and I strolled around the fountain, I watched all the other kids wading and splashing in the pool of that fountain. I begged her to let me join them and my grandmother did the most amazing thing—she let me—and she joined us!
We took off our shoes and socks, and we splashed in that fountain with all the other kids. My shorts and shirt were soaked, but I didn’t care. We were a bunch of laughing boys and girls (and a grandma) with arms and smiles widespread. Our hearts were free. Uninhibited. Full of life and full of happiness. That fountain was a place of joy. That’s what I think of when I hear this hymn:
There is a Fountain
by William Cowper
There is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.
God has opened up a fountain to you too, through Jesus. He invites you to step in and enjoy His refreshing love! Don’t stand at the edges of His joy. If you just ask, He will do the most amazing thing: He will wash away your sins! And you, like a child, can be free and full of joy.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I believe that Jesus died for me, was buried, and rose from the dead. Thank you for cleansing me from sin and washing away all my impurity.  I lift my face and spread my arms in worship of You. Thank You Lord! In Jesus’s name, amen.
