Living out our call to do justice, The Great Plains Conference has been working in collaboration with the Direct Action & Research Training Center Network to successfully establish new justice ministry organizations in Wyandotte County, Johnson County, Lawrence, Topeka, and Lincoln, Nebraska, with the newest organization now emerging here in Sedgwick County. In Lawrence, the DART established ministry, Justice Matters, lead an initiative to build a mental health crisis center, which opened this past Spring. In Topeka, the DART established ministry, JUMP, advocated to expand the public transportation to reach the factories on the edge of town, so that people without cars could get jobs there. What will we achieve here in Wichita?
This is all starts with listening. There are over 40 congregations involved here in Wichita, including Aldersgate. The information gathered from these listening sessions will determine the issues that our justice ministry organization will address. We are looking for people to lead these listening sessions; if you feel God calling you to lead one, talk to Pastor Maria or Melanie McLey. And if you are invited to participate in a listening session, we want to hear your voice.
