The student ministry at Aldersgate is designed to provide a safe environment with spiritual support for students in grades 6 through 12. Our program provides a variety of ways to give youth opportunities to learn, grow, and make friends.
Friends are welcome at practically any youth event. If we are leaving the church for an activity, he or she will be required to have a permission slip on file with the church office.
Sunday school classes are offered for Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12).
These classes meet in the basement, rooms 16 and 17.
2:30 p.m. – Junior High youth devotional time
3:00 p.m. – High School youth arrive and both groups play games together
3:30 p.m. – Junior High youth are finished, and High School youth will have their devotional time
4:00 p.m. – High School youth are finished
Confirmation gives youth the opportunity to make their commitment to Jesus Christ and the United Methodist Church firm. This is also how youth can become full members of the church. Confirmation classes begin on the first Wednesday in November and run through April. All youth who are currently enrolled in, or have completed, 7th grade and have not yet been confirmed, are invited to take part in Confirmation class.
Additional youth activities include lock-ins, mission projects, Youth Sunday, Confirmation, fundraisers, retreats, and summer trips.
Parents are vital to this ministry. On a rotating basis, parents are asked to drive for events, help with fundraisers, stay for lock-ins, open their home for events, or host youth on trips.
Adult sponsors are church members who help lead the youth, plan programs, provide transportation, and sponsor youth trips and activities. Each sponsor focuses on either Middle School or High School.
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
