Children's Activities
The children’s ministry at Aldersgate is ALIVE. Our Sunday school curriculum is called Cross-Training, a unique rotation-style Sunday school where kids thrive. We also offer an evening children’s program, called Elevate, January through April, as well as several other special events throughout the year for the whole family!
Children's Sunday School
Aldersgate United Methodist Church has Sunday School classes for children starting at age 2 (by September 1st). A nursery is provided from 8 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. on Sundays for children under 2.
Each child through 5th grade needs to be checked in to and out of their classroom. To avoid congestion in the Children’s Education Wing, we ask that only one parent pick up your Cross Trainers.
How can you get involved? Become part of the team that teaches your children! Being a Personal Trainer is only a 6-week commitment involving taking your child’s grade-level to their Cross-Training station each week. Pair up with a partner and split the time, and it is only a 3-week commitment! You can also be a Station Leader for one of the six Cross-Training stations; lesson plans are provided.
2 Year Olds: Noah’s Ark
Kids enjoy stories, songs, and crafts in a nurturing environment.
3 Year Olds: Daniel’s Den
Kids learn about God’s love through story, song, games, and crafts.
4 Year Olds (Pre-K): The Treehouse
Come join Noah the Bear and learn about God’s love.
Kindergarten through 3rd Grade: Clubhouse
4th-5th Grade: Fellowship Hall
These age groups participate in a rotation called Cross Training, learning through hands-on experiences. The opening time is to sing songs, recognize birthdays, and take an offering. Then each week groups of kids will rotate through six stations–Art, Science, Games, Cooking, Movies and Computers–with their own grade level, exploring a different aspect of the theme story.
3 Year Olds through 2nd Grade: Toddler Nurseries
We will have stories, songs, and crafts.
Yearly Events
From participating in worship to fun events, VBS, and being in the Christmas pageant, there’s lots for kids to do.
One Sunday each year, the children of Aldersgate help with all three services on this special Sunday. Children help greet, read liturgies, usher, or perform a musical piece. Pre-K to 5th graders are encouraged to participate. At Aldersgate, Children’s Sabbath is usually the first Sunday in March.
On a special Sunday in August, we promote all students to their new classrooms and present 3rd-graders with a new Bible. We hope that this Bible will not only help them in their spiritual life, but that it will also become a good memory of Aldersgate.
Each spring, usually the first Sunday in June, we host our annual carnival for the entire church. There are games, inflatables, and great food for all. Proceeds are used for our summer VBS program.
Every summer, usually in July, we make Jesus real to the kids by providing a fun, engaging, hands-on Bible learning experience. VBS is for 4-year-olds to 5th graders.
Look for information in the newsletter, in the bulletin, and below.
Every year on the Sunday before Halloween, people from the congregation decorate their vehicle trunks, put on their non-threatening Halloween apparel, and pass out treats. This is a fun, safe experience for the entire family with a variety of activities. Concessions are sold, and those proceeds go to the following summer’s VBS.
Bring the joy of Christmas to your heart by attending and/or having your child participate in this annual pageant. Children K through 5th grade are encouraged to take part. The Christmas Pageant is usually the first Saturday of December.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer, usually in July, we make Jesus real to the kids by providing a fun, engaging, hands-on Bible learning experience. VBS is for kids 4 years old through incoming 5th graders, and free to all.
Our 2025 VBS will be True North, from July 21-25.
There are many ways for you to help. Please contact Cynthia for more information.
