Scholarships
Aldersgate has seventeen scholarships available for all active participants in the church seeking higher education in any form.
The scholarships available are the Sutcliffe Scholarship, two McCullough/McCracken Family Scholarships, and fourteen Endowment Scholarships. (See below for the scholarship criteria.) The application deadline has now closed for the 2023-2024 academic year. The recipients will be notified by February 14. The awards are sent directly to the institution upon enrollment, with half to be paid for first semester and half to be paid for second semester.
Scholarship award recipients will be chosen by the Aldersgate Scholarship Committee. All decisions are final. Please contact Nicole Guiliano, the church administrator, with any questions.
An Aldersgate Seminary Scholarship is available for beginning seminary students from Aldersgate. Please contact the office if you are interested.
There are also camping scholarships available through the Kay Whitcomb fund. Contact Cynthia Rios or Pastor Maria.

If there are other individuals or families interested in establishing a scholarship at Aldersgate, please contact the church or the chair of the Endowment or Scholarship committee. This is a wonderful way to give to the youth of Aldersgate as they pursue their higher education.
Scholarship Criteria
This scholarship was initiated by Don and Carol Sutcliffe and is for high school seniors who will be attending at accredited Kansas university or college. This is the 17th year for the scholarship, and it is worth $2200.
Criteria:
- Student must be a member, or the child of a member, in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
- High-School senior scheduled to graduate in 2023 that will be pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university in the state of Kansas, including two-year colleges.
- Completed application and your most current transcript required.
- Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
- No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
- Student who plans on working his/her way through college desired.
- Gift award to selected scholar(s) to be the lesser of $2200 or 50% of tuition, fees, and books for the school year.
- The Sutcliffe Scholarship will not be awarded to the same individual in consecutive years.
- Award to be sent directly to Institution at enrollment time with ½ to be paid for first semester and ½ to be paid for second semester.
This scholarship was established to honor the respective brothers of Paddy and Sylvia McCullough. It is for anyone (of any age) who wants to further their education. There will be two McCullough/McCracken Family Scholarships, each worth $1500.
Criteria:
- Student must be a member, or the child of a member, in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
- Anyone looking to further their education including high-school seniors, existing college students, technical or trade students, seminary students, etc.
- Completed application and your most current (within 5 years) transcript required.
- Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
- No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
- Student who is driven and who may need to work while studying desired.
- 2 scholarships — each amount is $1500.
- Award to be sent directly to institution at enrollment time upon presentation of tuition statement to the Aldersgate UMC church accountant.
This scholarship was initiated by the Endowment Committee to encourage and support graduating high school seniors in furthering their education. It is available to high school seniors pursuing a post-secondary education. There are 4 Endowment scholarships available for graduating high-school seniors (see criteria below), as well as 10 for high-school seniors, existing undergrads, grad students, and tech school students.
Criteria:
- Student must be a member, the child of a member, or an active participant in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
- Graduating high school seniors pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university (2 year or 4 year), existing undergraduates, graduate students, and trade/technical school students are eligible.
- Completed application and your most current transcript required.
- Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
- No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
- Preference given to those who can demonstrate a financial need.
- Scholarship amount is $1000 minimum (based on annual earnings from scholarship endowment fund).
