Scholarships

Aldersgate has seven scholarships available for Aldersgate youth attending college: the Sutcliffe Scholarship, two McCullough/McCracken Family Scholarships, and four Endowment Scholarships. (See below for the scholarship criteria.) Applications for each are accepted starting March 1, with a deadline of 1 p.m. on March 29, for the academic year beginning in the fall. The recipients will be notified by May 1. The awards are sent directly to the institution upon enrollment, with half to be paid for first semester and half to be paid for second semester. The application for the Sutcliffe, McCullough/McCracken, or Endowment Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year is available at the Welcome Center, in the office, or by following the link provided.
Scholarship award recipients will be chosen by the Aldersgate Scholarship Committee. All decisions are final. Please contact Denise Wilson with any questions.
An Aldersgate Seminary Scholarship is available for beginning seminary students from Aldersgate.Please contact the office if you are interested.
There are also camping scholarships available through the Kay Whitcomb fund. Contact Cynthia Rios, Steve James, or Denise Wilson.
The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church has additional information about other scholarship and loan opportunities.
If there are other individuals or families interested in establishing a scholarship at Aldersgate, please contact the church or the chair of the Endowment or Scholarship committee. This is a wonderful way to give to the youth of Aldersgate as they pursue their higher education.

Sutcliffe Scholarship

This scholarship was initiated by Don and Carol Sutcliffe and is for high school seniors who will be attending at accredited Kansas university or college. This is the 13th year for the scholarship, and it is worth $2200.
 
Criteria:
  • Student must be a member, or the child of a member, in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
  • High-School senior scheduled to graduate in 2019 that will be pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university in the state of Kansas, including two-year colleges.
  • Completed application and your most current transcript required.
  • Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
  • No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
  • Student who plans on working his/her way through college desired.
  • Gift award to selected scholar(s) to be the lesser of $2200 or 50% of tuition, fees, and books for the school year.
  • The Sutcliffe Scholarship will not be awarded to the same individual in consecutive years.
  • Award to be sent directly to Institution at enrollment time with ½ to be paid for first semester and ½ to be paid for second semester.

 McCullough/McCracken Family Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the respective brothers of Paddy and Sylvia McCullough. It is for anyone (of any age) who wants to further their education. There will be two McCullough/McCracken Family Scholarships, each worth $1000.
 
Criteria:
  • Student must be a member, or the child of a member, in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
  • Anyone looking to further their education, including high-school seniors, existing college students, technical or trade students, seminary students, etc.
  • Completed application and your most current transcript required.
  • Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
  • No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
  • Student who is driven and who may need to work while studying desired.
  • Scholarship amount is $1000.
  • Award to be sent directly to institution at enrollment time upon presentation of tuition statement to the Aldersgate UMC church accountant.

Aldersgate Endowment Scholarship Award

This scholarship was initiated by the Endowment Committee to encourage and support graduating high school seniors in furthering their education. It is available to high school seniors pursuing a post-secondary education. There are four Endowment Scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year, each worth $500.
 
Criteria:
  • Student must be a member, or the child of a member, in good standing of the Wichita, KS Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
  • Graduating high school senior, pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university (2 year or 4 year). Trade/Technical School may also be considered.
  • Completed application and your most current transcript required.
  • Interview (at discretion of Scholarship Committee).
  • No mandatory Grade Point Average requirement.
  • Scholarship amount is $500 minimum (based on annual earnings from scholarship endowment fund).
  • Award to be sent directly to institution at enrollment upon presentation of tuition statement to the Aldersgate UMC church accountant.
